Readers who aren't in on what's been going on in the East Bay lately may see this picture and think nothing of it. But never have I been more happy to see garbage collectors outside my house as I was this morning. My relatives and friends in New Orleans would surely scoff if they heard me whining after a mere two weeks of garbage pile-up in the streets, and I know our neighborhood has not been among the most badly affected by the sanitation-worker lockout, but I can tell you this, with new and unfortunate certainty: My kid ain't the only one in diapers on this street. Need I say more?
