Sun-Day

Today has been one of the most beautiful days that the Bay Area has seen in months. After weeks of chilly air, gloomy fog and clouds and pouring rain, we had a clear-blue, sunny, warm weekend. For the first time since last summer, we can walk out onto our back deck and hear the jazz band that plays Sunday afternoons at the outdoor cafe down the street. And just look at this week's forecast for Oakland!
Back in January, Byrne had an idea for a resolution: every first Sunday of the month we should attend the early service at Glide, a very special church in San Francisco that we've been attending intermittently for years. We've stuck with it, along with my addition to the plan--brunch in the city afterward. Today, after the Glide Ensemble and Change Band filled our hearts with good music and Rev. Cecil Williams filled our souls with inspiration, we filled our bellies at the St. Francis Fountain. An old-stylie soda fountain established in 1918 on 24th Street in the Mission, the St. Francis is an SF institution, and passes some important Reese Family tests with flying colors: good grilled cheese, fabulous fries, and right-on chocolate shakes. We sat at the counter. I had a cold root beer. Life is good.
